The clavicle, also known as the collarbone, is a long bone that connects the scapula (shoulder blade) to the sternum (breastbone). It plays an important role in shoulder movement and stability. Clavicle fractures are common injuries, accounting for approximately 5% of all adult fractures. In recent years, there have been significant advances in surgical techniques and implants for treating clavicle fractures. One such implant is the S-Clavicle Plate and Screw System.
The S-Clavicle Plate and Screw System is a specialized orthopedic implant used for the fixation of midshaft clavicle fractures. The system consists of a low-profile, anatomically contoured plate that is designed to fit the shape of the clavicle. The plate is made of titanium alloy, which is strong, durable, and biocompatible. The system also includes a set of screws, which are used to secure the plate to the bone.
The S-Clavicle Plate and Screw System is used in surgical procedures for the treatment of midshaft clavicle fractures. The procedure involves making a small incision over the fracture site, exposing the bone, and aligning the fracture fragments. The plate is then contoured to the shape of the clavicle and secured to the bone using screws. The plate and screws work together to stabilize the fracture and promote healing.
The S-Clavicle Plate and Screw System offers several benefits over traditional methods of clavicle fracture fixation. Some of these benefits include:
Low profile: The S-Clavicle Plate and Screw System is designed to be low profile, which means it is less likely to irritate the skin and soft tissues.
Anatomically contoured: The plate is anatomically contoured to fit the shape of the clavicle, which provides a more secure fixation and reduces the risk of implant failure.
Biocompatible: The plate and screws are made of titanium alloy, which is strong, durable, and biocompatible. This means it is less likely to cause an allergic reaction or rejection by the body.
Minimally invasive: The surgical procedure for the S-Clavicle Plate and Screw System is minimally invasive, which means it involves smaller incisions and less tissue damage. This can lead to faster healing times and reduced pain.
Like all surgical procedures and implants, there are risks and potential complications associated with the S-Clavicle Plate and Screw System. Some of these risks include:
Infection
Implant failure
Nerve injury
Blood vessel injury
Non-union or delayed union of the fracture
Hardware irritation

However, like all surgical procedures and implants, there are risks and potential complications that should be discussed with your orthopedic surgeon.
